"Modern Family" Goes to Hawaii

"Modern Family" goes to Hawaii for Jay's birthday celebration.  Follow them tonight on ABC.  Meanwhile, check out ABC's video with Steven Levitan and the whole cast of the show talking about their unforgettable experience filming the episode "Hawaii".

"Modern Family" Kids in Commercials

The child actors of "Modern Family" Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, and Nolan Gould, are featured in some commercials. This is good for the Dunphy's.

Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley is in an Olive Garden commercial. Watch it now!

Meanwhile Ariel Winter, who plays Alex, is in a Nintendo DS cooking game. Imagine that?

Finally, Nolan Gould, who you know as dim-witted Luke, unfortunately his commercial isn't online. But I'll get it here once it's available.

Ariel Winter Shares Her Thoughts on Alloy

I found an article about Alloy's interview with Ariel Winter o r Alex of "Modern Family".  She talks about how similar she is and the character she's portraying in the show.  She also shares with us how she handles herself at times when she's in a very funny scene and feels like bursting into laughter.  She's adorable, not to mention very talented and vibrant.  Here are the highlights of the interview:

How are you like and unlike your character, Alex?
Coincidentally, Alex and I are both loyal and smart (not really tooting my own horn), cynical and funny and I have to admit, I'm a bit of a smart alec myself, if you ask my parents. We both really value education. The biggest difference is how we dress. Alex is more Urban Outfitters tomboy and I'm more of an edgy rock and roll younger version of Taylor Swift. Also, I don't wear glasses or play cello.

How did your own family life help you prepare for Modern Family?
My family is somewhat like my TV family. My parents are hilarious and are opposites, exactly like Phil and Claire. My mom is like, "We're on a schedule! We have to get things done." And my dad is like, "Hey, we can relax."

Do you think of any of your cast mates as family now?
Ed O'Neill is definitely like a grandfather to me. He's really sweet. And Nolan is a lot like a little brother to me.

Do you have any brothers and sisters?
I have a brother and sister. They're a lot older than me so everyone always asks, "Same mother and father?"

Do you hang out with your brother and sisters on the show when you're not filming?
Yeah, I do. We go to dinner and a movie sometimes or we go to the arcade and just kick it. For Christmas I bought them rubber band guns so we'll just go outside the school room for recess and shoot at fake targets on the walls. We're really good friends.

Are you and your sister on the show close off-set?
Sara's actually 19. It's really fun. She's really sweet. We hang out sometimes but me and the boys are in school together like, 3 hours a day, so we get to bond a lot more.

What's been your favorite scene to film?
Probably when Alex goes to the school dance and a boy actually wants to dance with her. Talk about awkward.

Have you had that experience?
I actually haven't been to a school dance yet but I'm really excited. I have all these dresses in my closet that I've worn to premieres that I don't really get to wear anywhere else so I'm really excited that if I go to one of these school dances, I could go to my closet and be like, "Which dress do I want to wear?!"

That's every girl's dream!
Yes, I have so many dresses. I have separate closets. One is in my room, like casual clothes and jeans, and the one in our guest bedroom is all dresses and fancy stuff.

Who do you think is the funniest cast member on the show?
You can't decide that. Everyone is hilarious. We're SNL but for ABC.

Who makes you laugh the most during scenes?
I'm mostly in scenes with Ty and Julie and Nolan. During those scenes, Ty always has these really funny punch lines or the High School Musical dance. I swear he made that up all by himself. Ever since the pilot, to this day we still do "We're All in this Together…"

How do you refrain from laughing during a funny scene?
I just think to myself, "In a couple of seconds, they will yell cut and I will burst out laughing." I just think to myself, "I am cool, I am calm, I am collected." I try to channel my inner Alex and think what she would do.

More Photos of "Modern Family" in Hawaii

Wow, I wish I was there with them in Hawaii.  The whole cast of "Modern Family" are filming at the Four Season's Hotel in Maui.  The sunset shoot sets almost all of the cast out for pictures.  At one point, they saw a whale that was breeching and they all stopped to take a look.  Photos done by PacificCoastNews.com.

Scoop on Cam and Mitchell's Baby - Lily

Here is an interesting scoop by Matt Webb Mitovich of Fancast on Lily:

Any scoop on my second-favorite family, the Dunphys? – Sasha

How about a bit on the youngest member of ABC’s ‘Modern Family‘? Baby Lily will utter her first word – and her choice is one that sends Cameron and Mitchell reeling. Also on the horizon: Judy Greer (’Arrested Development’) will play an ex-girlfriend of Phil’s with whom he’s reunited via Facebook, and Alex will convince Luke that he’s adopted (though not related to ‘TVD’s Katherine).

Modern Family "Pilot" Review

I had the chance of watching the pilot weeks ago.  The reason why I made this site is because I just fell in love with the show.  And that doesn't happen very often.  I made this for all fans who want to be updated on what's happening with the show.  This about sums up my reaction and view on ABC's Modern Family.  Here is IGN TV's review.  I hope you do watch it tonight.

Modern Family: "Pilot" Review
ABC gets hilariously modern with this family comedy.
by Robert Canning

September 22, 2009 - Advance Review: ABC's Modern Family already has a ton of critical buzz going for it, and from my perspective, the series is the most talked about new comedy of the season. And after an advance viewing of the pilot, that all makes sense. The premiere takes a clever new look at some of your basic sitcom set-ups and the result is a lot of laugh-out-loud hilarity. Though the pilot does have its weaker moments, and it still needs a bit of definition with its format, Modern Family gives us a solid, very funny debut.

The pilot episode introduces us to three distinct family units. There's the overall traditional family, with a mom, a dad and three kids. Then there's the May-December couple, where the younger (very hot) wife has a tween-age son from a previous marriage. And finally there's the gay couple that have just recently adopted a baby. All three face their share of problems in the premiere episode, most of which are variations of issues that have come up in sitcoms for years: troublesome boyfriends, feeling old, family gatherings, etc. But Modern Family adds enough of a twist to the tried-and-true formulas to make these situations feel fresh and enough clever wit to make them funny.

The major "twist" given to this family sitcom formula is setting it up as a mockumentary, much like the very successful The Office. It's no surprise that this style would soon find its way into the family sitcom genre. As a pilot, there's little actual set up to the documentary angle. Things kick in early with on camera interviews tucked in between the daily lives of our families. There was some confusion for me as to whether the day-to-day activities were being documented, or just the interview segments. At first, I didn't think it was an exact match to the style of The Office, but then I noticed a few subtle glances directly to the camera. Very subtle, actually. The complete opposite of a Jim Halpert reaction shot. This all may become more clear in future episodes, or maybe it won't. In either case, the overall quality of the pilot was not greatly hindered by this one small issue.

The cast is stellar. Julie Bowen (Ed, Boston Legal) and Ty Burrell (Back to You) head the traditional household and both are strong. In the pilot, Burrell does have some weaker moments when he's playing up the "cool dad" clich?, but his hilarious, unforced scene with his son and a BB gun prove there's great potential for the character. Elsewhere, it's great to see Ed O'Neill back in action. His character Jay could be an older, slightly more toned-down version of Al from Married with Children, in a very good way. The lesser-known actors filling out the series are all expertly cast, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet as the lovingly bickering gay couple, and the young Rico Rodriquez as Jay's stepson. From the pilot alone, Rodriquez has proven he has the potential to steal any scene he's in.

The premiere episode does a fantastic job of introducing us to these family units, and it was fun to see how they would be connected to each other in the realm of the series. The smaller issues aside -- the mildly unclear format, some forced clichés -- the pilot episode of Modern Family is a must see comedy. And judging by stars already slated to guest star -- Edward Norton, Elizabeth Banks -- it appears there will be much to look forward to as the season continues.

Modern Family premieres Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9pm ET/PT on ABC.

Here is POP Tower's insider scoop on Edward Norton's guest appearance on Modern Family:

The Oscar nominated actor will play a famous musician on an upcoming episode of the new ABC comedy, starring Ed O'Neill, alongside fellow guest star Elizabeth Banks.

Two-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Edward Norton ("Primal Fear," "The Incredible Hulk") will guest star in an upcoming episode of "Modern Family." Norton will play Izzy LaFontaine, a "famous" musician who is hired by Claire as a surprise anniversary gift for Phil. Elizabeth Banks ("Seabiscuit," "Zack and Miri Make a Porno") will also guest star in the same episode as Mitchell and Cameron's best girlfriend, Sal.

"Modern Family" stars Ed O'Neill as Jay Pritchett, Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy, Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy, Sofa Vergara as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron, Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy, Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy, Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy and Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado.

The Plot

Here is ABC's official description of the much awaited comedy series Modern Family:

"When the Pritchett, Delgado and Dunphy families agree to be interviewed by a documentary crew, they have no idea just how much they're about to reveal about themselves. Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill) met the stunning Columbian Gloria (Sofia Vergara) when she bartended in a bikini at the pool party he threw for himself the day his wife left him. Now Jay and Gloria are married and Jay tries hard to keep up with his much younger and hotter wife and her passionate teenage son, Manny (Rico Rodriguez). Claire Delgado (Julie Bowen) is having a hard time raising her own family. Her husband Phil (Ty Burrell) is great, except for the fact that he thinks he's "down" with their teenage kids, much to their embarrassment.  Mitchell Dunphy (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his enthusiastic partner Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) have just adopted Lily, a precious little baby girl from Vietnam. This engaging new comedy offers a 'mockumentary' view into the complicated, messy, loving life of three unique families. Steven Levitan (Just Shoot Me) and Christopher Lloyd (Frasier) invite you into the sometimes warm and sometimes twisted embrace of modern day families."

Sarah Hyland, Nolan Gould and Ariel Winter also star in the single-camera project, which Jason Winer helmed from a script by Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd.
