A FAMILY IS LIKE A SPORTS TEAM SOME MEMBERS ARE FIRST-STRINGERS AND OTHERS GET BENCHED, ON ABC'S "MODERN FAMILY"

"Benched" - When Luke and Manny's hot-tempered basketball coach quits in the middle of a game, Jay and Phil both jockey to fill the position. Claire and Gloria each struggle with the realization that they might not be number one in their children's lives anymore, and Mitchell takes Cameron along to meet a prospective employer, but Cameron's big personality doesn't necessarily help to make a good impression, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14 (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

"Modern Family" stars Ed O'Neill as Jay Pritchett, Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy, Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy, Sofia Vergara as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron, Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy, Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy, Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy and Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado.

Guest cast include Justin Kirk as Charlie Bingham, Eric Lange as Coach Stupak and Stoney Jackson as Ref.

"Benched" was written by Danny Zucker and directed by Chris Koch.

Modern Family - "Game Changer" Promotional Pics

Below are the photos of the episode "Game Changer" on "Modern Family" which airs tonight on ABC.  Thanks to TV Overmind for these pics which tell a lot on what's gonna happen with our favorite characters in the show.  Jay plays opposite Manny and Gloria in the game of chess.  Any guess on who will win the game?  In the last picture, Mitchell has his own way of toughening up.  I'm so excited to see how he does it and what happens next.  I could only see him as a peace-loving and violence-free kind of individual so the picture is really funny for me.  I wonder what Claire's gift to Phil would be.  Any guesses?  Sound-off below.

Modern Family - "Game Changer" Preview

ABC's "Modern Family" invites us all to Phil's birthday celebration.  And don't forget your gift!  The only gift you can give according to Claire is the hottest new product that launches on the day of Phil's birthday.  I'm sure we will enjoy another blast from the Pritchetts, as you will see in this promo of tomorrow night's episode.  Gloria doesn't seem to be happy with how the game turned out.  Here is the video from Primetvpromos.

Ed O'Neill on Being the Father of "Modern Family"

I consider Ed O'Neill as the Father of "Modern Family" because he is the head of the Pritchetts.  And he gave birth to two more families who are crazy but lovable.  Here is what he says to TV Squad about the funniest and most loved comedy show, "Modern Family":

When you got the script for this show, it obviously was a little different than the comedy experience you previously had
Completely different, yes.

Was that what attracted you to the role of Jay, because it was so different from Al Bundy, and so different from the dramatic roles you've played?
Not so much different from Al, because everything is. But I liked the ensemble nature of the show. That attracted me right away. That the show, there's a lot of go-to people on the show. So it takes a lot of pressure off, you know? And also it becomes, for me, less boring. You know, you see that person all the time. Especially when you're doing it every week. It just gets old fast. But this show seemed to have more comedic potential because of the three separate but interconnected families.

When the show first started, they really tried to keep it a secret from us that the families were interconnected.
And only announced it before the pilot.

Were you happy that they did that? Because it seemed like they kind of made the decision mid-way through to kind of change their minds...
No. I wasn't personally happy. I wasn't outraged. But I thought well, they made the decision, I guess they feel that it'll draw more people. And then when I watched it, I don't think it hurt.

How has Jay changed over the first... how far are you guys into the season? About 2/3 of the way through now?

(to Steven Levitan) Are we 2/3rds in Steve? Into the season?

Steven Levitan: In the season? That's about right. 2/3...that's about right.

So how has Jay kind of changed and shifted since the start?
Well, they're making him more of a prick. And the thing I look at...

Levitan: Why are we inspired to do that? Where is that coming from? I'm not sure...

(laughing) You know what he's saying. I think that there's always a change when the actual actors begin to work with each other on a regular basis and you become friendly... hopefully...you start to like one another. In between takes, you start to share stories and such.

And then there's this sort of a melding, which I love that process, because that's likethe honeymoon, really. And then things begin to become a little warmer, a little more comfortable. You can do things with a little look instead of, you know what I mean? It becomes more real. That's how it changes.

First of all, how interesting is it that a lot of the cast of 'Married... With Children' are all sprinkled through the primetime schedule? Christina (Applegate) had her own show for a couple years, and now Katey (Sagal) is on 'Sons of Anarchy.'
Yes, yes. I like it because it kind of shows that there was some talent in that cast, you know, and some staying power.

Now that it's been off the air for thirteen years, do you think it's going to be looked back on fondly as a family sitcom even though it's a little twisted? Especially considering the TV landscape these days?
I really don't know. I mean, I don't know where it's going to land in the scheme of things as they look back on it. I think it's gonna be, certainly it was a bit of a ground-breaker. How good or how... I don't know. I mean, I think that it was funny, and that goes a long way. And that's all I know. I don't know. You know, it's hard to judge your own kind of thing anyway.

Alright, just how is it working with Sofia Vergara in most of your scenes?

I love playing with her. I really love working with her. I think she's extraordinarily funny. Of course, she's not hard to look at. I love the idea that the different culture, and it's hard enough to understand a woman, you know, in a marriage, in the same culture. And you take a Colombian woman, beautiful, young, and so there's always the surprises for Jay, things he didn't quite bargain on, I would imagine, when he married her. Obviously, she was beautiful, and that was thrilling. And now that he's married,
there are puzzling aspects.

in the pilot, it was kind of the joke that you were trying to be younger, and they've eased that off on that
Yeah, yeah, I'm glad. I think it works anyway without the crazy clothes and stuff. You know, they dress me now very nicely. And not... this is the way I dress... but they have the $600 shirts with the jeans, you know, out. But I think that that and the nice car, and obviously he's got money, and he's with the young woman. Obviously he's gotta try to stay (youthful).

Right, keep up with her, yeah. But not as comically though as the pilot.
No. And I don't think you have to do that. I think that plays itself, you know?

Modern Family - "Starry Night" Sneak Peeks

Here are some sneak peeks of tomorrow's episode "Starry Night" from TV Overmind.  The scene where Cameron says a faux pas was so amazingly done.  It was funny and so gay and unforgivable.  Cameron really owes Gloria a wonderful diva date.  But what happens when the date goes awry?  See for yourself tomorrow on ABC's "Modern Family".

Spoiler Alert: Modern Family's Aloha Trip

Major spoiler here at Modern Family TV Series.  The Hawaii trip was the topic during the 2010 PaleyFest held recently.  You will never imagine what the cast has revealed regarding their summer vacation.  I think that this will be super fun and it will really mark the legend that is, "Modern Family".  Here it is from William Keck at TV Guide Magazine:

At the annual PaleyFest’s Modern Family panel, the cast of ABC’s comedy hit talked up their upcoming Hawaii episode, which finds the Dunphy and Pritchett families getting their Aloha on. Here’s what to expect from the very special episode.

“We’re celebrating Jay’s birthday,” says Ed O’Neill, who plays Grandpa Jay. “So everybody goes.”

The trouble starts with a phone call from Jay’s brother, whom Ed says, “points out that I’m the same age our dad was when hedropped dead. With that news, I start to go to the spa more and start to overdue it trying to get in shape.”

When Jay fails to show for the big birthday dinner luau, concerned son-in-law Phil goes looking for him and finds grandpa in a hammock, felled by a sore back. “I can’t get out so he tries to help me out,” says Ed. “Then he falls in, it flips and we end up upside down together.” (Sounds almost like the Moon Landing Jay experienced in the gym locker room with Cam.)

“I can’t wait for that!,” explains Ty Burrell (Phil), who amazingly has never been to Hawaii and is looking forward to consuming massive quantities of seafood. “I have been loving the physical stuff and I love working with Ed. But we’ll both have to brush our teeth before that scene.”

Meanwhile, gay dads Cameron and Mitchell will be exploring Maui’s lavender farm. “I’m trying to pull Cameron away from the pool to come with me to this farm,” says Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell. “And we might have a similar situation to where we locked baby Lily in the car.” This time: she’ll likely be left in an elevator!

Julie Bowen, who may also use her time there to turn up on Lost as Jack’s estranged wife Sarah, just hopes the vacation episode doesn’t come off looking too ‘Very Brady’.

“We find a tiki tiki,” Julie kids of the episode, which will be shot on the grounds of Maui’s Four Seasons.

Do you remember Jessica Rabbit?  Isn't she sexy, talented, smart, and still, sexy?  For Ed O'Neill who plays Jay of "Modern Family", his co-star Sofia Vergara is Jessica Rabbit.  According to The Press Association, Sofia reminds Ed of Jessica Rabbit.  They're a lot like each other.  Sofia plays Gloria, Jay's partner in the funniest newest comedy show today.

Modern Family Goes "Hawaii"

This exciting scoop will really mark the ingenuity of the initial season of Modern Family.  Here is the latest from Michael Ausiello:

It’s the biggest thing to happen to the Aloha State since Vincent Price terrorized the Brady boys back in 1972: Modern Family is heading to Hawaii!

Executive producer Steve Levitan confirms that the entire cast will fly to Maui next week to shoot an episode slated to air in May.

“We’re going to show them on a family vacation,” reveals Levitan, adding that the trip coincides with Jay’s birthday. “Jay thinks that he and Gloria are going by themselves for this romantic getaway, and she surprises him by inviting the entire family.”

Wait, it gets better!

The first part of the two-part episode will be set entirely at the airport as they set off on their big trip. “Initially, we were just going to do [the airport episode],” explains Levitan. “And then as we were shooting it we decided that [viewers] would be somewhat disappointed if we didn’t follow through on the [actual] trip. So now the entire family is going to Hawaii.”
